Nonjabulo Khanyisile Zakwe has always wanted to help people and it’s that passion that led her to become a doctor. Growing up in Osizweni, Dr Zakwe always dreamed of being a social worker,
a job which meant she would be able to help others. However, she was drawn to the healthcare profession when she witnessed
doctors help her own brother. “My brother had fallen from a tree and
was injured. I was fascinated by the number of people going to the doctor to get help and the fact that my brother got better.” Dr Zakwe studied at UKZN and graduated in 2012. She then worked as an intern at Ladysmith Provincial Hospital from 2012 to 2013 before moving to Dundee Hospital in 2014.

“The best part of my job is when I am able to help a person and improve their life at home, because then I feel that, in some way, my work has contributed to the holistic well-being of that individual. People should remember that health is not purely physical well-being. Our clients have become an extension of our family, as we spend most of our time caring for them. It’s a part of what defines us.” Passionate about her patients, her greatest achievement was opening up her own practice at 14 Beaconsfield street in Dundee. “I hope to be able to run an established private practice but still maintain the quality of holistic service I provide.”

A hero who is always willing to help others.
